There are so many things to do and places to see on your Hawaii vacation that it’s hard to know where to start. The six main Hawaiian Islands, although similar, offer a diverse selection of activities. Knowing what each island has to offer might give you a start in choosing the destination that is ideal for you.
Big Island – If you want to experience some of Hawaii’s plant and animal life up closes and personal, the Big Island might be the place for you. The Big Island is home to several botanical gardens, a wildlife refuge, and an arboretum. It also has several museums, the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo, and is home to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Kauai – One of the smaller and less populated islands, the island of Kauai boasts some of the best scenic ocean views in Hawaii. You can see the calm peaceful side of the ocean from one Kauai’s beautiful beaches. Or experience the majestic crashing waves of the ocean from a high cliff.
Lanai – Lanai has the smallest population of the Hawaiian Islands but is also one of the most historic. If you want to experience some ancient history on your Hawaii vacation you’ll be able to see petroglyphs and historic villages on a trip to Lanai.
Maui – The most popular spot to vacation in Hawaii, the island of Maui has lots to offer. Home to the well-known Haleakala National Park and the Road to Hana, Maui possesses majestic mountains, soothing waterfalls, as well as miles of white sand beaches.
Molokai – The island of Molokai is a great place for a quiet vacation and a cultural experience. Get a chance to enjoy Hawaii’s culture when you visit Molokai’s Hawaiian villages, plantations, and pineapple fields.
Oahu – Oahu is, of course, home to Hawaii’s capital, Honolulu. If you’re looking for a more fast-paced Hawaii vacation, Oahu is probably the place for you. Bigger cities, a surplus of entertainment, and the ever popular Waikiki beach, Oahu is booming with tourism. Two of the most popular tourist attractions, Diamond Head Crater, and Pearl Harbor, are located on Oahu.
While each island has something different to offer none of them lack the Hawaii vacation essentials, including miles of white sand beaches and crystal blue water, golf courses, and a tropical climate.
